Forging Ahead: Steel Stacks

Steel Tracks61SteelStacks in Bethlehem, PA, is located on the site of the former Bethlehem Steel, the second largest steel manufacturer in the U.S.
A 10-acre section of the original mill has been turned into a cultural centre.  The main attraction on the site is the remaining blast furnaces.  At one time there were seven.  The oldest dates from 1915.  The furnaces stretch over 1,100 feet. The two largest are more than 230 feet tall. The furnaces produced up to 3,000 tons of iron per day until shuttered in 1995.
